  5.     The videocamera, long the weapon of choice among obsessive
  6. parents, is finding favor with crime fighters these days. The
  7. Los Angeles police's grisly beating of Rodney King, videotaped
  8. by an amateur and aired on national television in March, was
  9. only the first of a growing number of America's Unfunniest Home
  10. Videos. At a Washington trial last month, prosecutors introduced
  11. a videotape of five men robbing and beating victims during a
  12. 1989 crime spree, which was recorded for posterity by one of the
  13. defendants.

  15.     Last week, during a fireworks display in Detroit, an
  16. amateur photographer videotaped a gang of young black women
  17. beating two older white women while police stood by. After the
  18. tape aired on national television, six attackers were arrested
  19. and charged with unarmed robbery and assault. And in Fort Worth a
  20. woman standing in a friend's yard recorded a police officer
  21. beating a handcuffed car-theft suspect 28 times with his baton.
  22. The officer is under criminal investigation, and the suspect is
  23. free on bail.
